- Project Manager
Joakim Ekelöf is a project manager at the Nordic Beet Research Foundation with responsibility for advanced development projects in sugar beet cultivation. The work focuses on combining agronomy, data analysis and digital solutions to improve the experimental activities.
Joakim drives initiatives in sugar beet storage, with the goal of increasing storage capacity and minimizing losses from harvest to delivery; in fertilizer strategies, where data-backed recommendations are developed for more accurate inputs; and AI and big data, where radar and optical satellite images (e.g. Sentinel-1/2) are linked to cultivation and harvest data for automated analysis, yield calculations and variety evaluation.
A key project is the development of a web-based history tool for test sites, where satellite data, ground data and topographic parameters are used to optimize the location of field trials and reduce the variation in results.
